In the state of Tamil Nadu in the Indian peninsula is a small town by the name of Uchipuli or Uchipuli. It is situated in the Mandapam block of Ramanathapuram district and serves as a primary source of water supply for the entire town of Ramanathapuram.
Places worth visiting:
One of the best tourist spots of the place is the extravagant Raja Palace. The tourists flock Ramanathapuram so as to get a glimpse the magnificent Palace. The former Sethupaty Raja and his family are believed to still reside in the palace. Although the king is no longer in power, yet they contribute to the society by building schools, hospitals and other public amenities. The Raja gets people from abroad to teach in the school through the Projects Abroad organization. These guests are welcome to use the palace during their visit. In 2004, a German citizen by the name of Philip Radlanski who had visited the palace has even made a documentary movie about the same.
Pilgrim Centre:
There are different places of pilgrimage in Uchipuli that is often visited by the tourist. These places are Rameshwaram and Devipattinam. The Hindus flock in large numbers to Rameshwaram so as to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva. It is one of the important places of pilgrimage in India.
The Naval Air Station:
Uchipuli also serves as a base for The Indian Navy’s INS Parindh. On 26th march 2009, a naval air station was accredited to supervise the coastal areas. This air station was commissioned by the then Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy Admiral Suresh Mehta.
Educational System:
A number of educational institutions of great repute are present in Uchipuli. Some of the popular schools of the region are National Academy Matriculation School, CSI Schwartz matriculation school, The International Matriculation School. Some government schools for primary and secondary education also provide education to the masses.
Transport
As this place lies on the national Highway 47 it is quite convenient to reach. This NH 47 that connects Kochi to Rameshwaram helps tourists reach this place without hassle. People wishing to travel to Uchipuli can either go either via bus or they may even use the railway services
