Velankanni is a panchayat town located in the Nagapattinam district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. it is  located about 350 km from the capital city Chennai and lies on the shore of the Bay Of Bengal. This is a trade centre which was also once a port. There is the presence of a shrine that has been dedicated to the Our Lady of Good Health. VAILANKANNI CHURCH: It is believed that the Shrine of the Velankanni is said to have cured people of many ailments. Hence this place has innumerable people coming here to offer prayers to the Virgin Mary. This Church which is also known as “Lourdes of the East” is a place worth visiting due to the marvelous domes and “Our Lady’s Tank”

POINT CALIMERE: Located at the southern part of Nagapattinam is a wildlife sanctuary that houses a wide range of rare animals and birds and is a place to be visited by the people. The lush green gardens and the serene environment make the place all the more endearing.THIRUNALLAR: This temple dedicated to Lord Sani is often visited by tourists mainly due to its calm environment. This temple has flocks of people visiting it to offer prayers to Lord Shani in the hope that their mishaps and misfortunes are warded off.NAGORE DARGAH: This Dargah dedicated to Prophet Mohammed is adorned by glimmering gold domes and five minarets and is almost 500 years old Dargah. Every year a 14 day festival is held here in honour of the Prophet.

THE VAILANKANNI RESIDENCY: This is a place often visited by the tourists and lies in close proximity to velankalli. People from different religions come here to offer prayers to the velankalli Shrine. One can also go for sight-seeing to this place of great beauty.

SIKKIL: This place should not be missed out by people visiting velankalli. There are beautiful paintings and inscriptions of the Chola and Vijaynagar period adorning the walls of the Shiva temple of this place.

KUMBHAKONAM: The two famous temples of this place Adikumbheshwara temple Airavadeswarar Temple has Lord Shiva as the presiding deity and is one of the world heritage centres.
