Vellore is a municipal corporation located in the Vellore district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It lies on the bank of the Palar River and is one of the oldest cities in South India. It is about 145 km from Chennai and about 215 km from Bangalore. It also happens to be located between Tirupati and Thiruvannamalai. It is mostly renowned for its Medical tourism and is also now being considered as a tourist spot. The place houses one of the best hospitals of the country. It also has many good educational institutions and some antique temples.
PLACES TO VISIT:
VELLORE FORT: This fort built in the 16th century has been built of the granite blocks. it has been used by many empires of India and is one of the major attractions of the city.
CLOCK TOWER: This tower has been built in memory of King George V and is dedicated to the soldiers who had fought from here during the 1st World War.
JALAKANTESHWARA TEMPLE: This temple built in 1550 lies within the complex of the fort and the walls have been adorned with Nandi carvings. This monument is one of the main attractions of the Vellore city.
AMIRTHI ZOOLOGICAL PARK: it is about 25km form Vellore and was started in 1967. The park not only hoses various birds and animals but also has cascading waterfalls, and various kinds of plants together with children’s play section. If one wishes for peace and serenity one can visit the meditation halls.
MUTHU MANDAPAM: Muthu Mandapam also referred to as the Pearl Palace has been established on the bed of Palar River and helps attract a lot of tourists.
THE MUSEUM OF VELLORE: It is actually a museum cum archive. Curios of different types have been maintained in this museum together with some historical monuments.
SHOPPING COMPLEX:
Some of the favourite destinations for shopaholics are the Annapurna Complex, Sri Amman Shopping Centre, Abirami Mega Mall, Ampa Skywalk, Spencer Plaza, Chandra Metro Mall, Mayajaal, Maya Plaza, Ispahani Centre, Fountain Plaza. Here people can splurge in as many items as they want.
