A small town situated on the banks of the River Krishna in the Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati is known the world over for Amareswara temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The town also houses the Buddhist stupa, believed to have been built in pre-Mauryan times during the reign of Emperor Ashoka. Amaravathi town was supposed to have been an important location for Buddhists and the stupa, which was supposedly completed in 200BC, tells the story of Buddha’s life.

Formerly known as ‘Prabhavatinagar,’ Parbhani is a city in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. Perched at an average elevation of 347 metres above sea-level, it is situated around the centre of Maharashtra. Parbhani was under the reign of various Sultans under the Mughals and later the Nizams for around 650 years and so has a long history. It is the administrative headquarters of the Parbhani District.
