The Amarnath Cave is one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism. It is located in the snowy and difficult terrain of Jammu and Kashmir at a distance of 141 km from the state capital Srinagar. In order to reach Amarnath, one has to go through the town of Pahalgam. Devotees throng the shrine every year to accomplish the difficult pilgrimage.

Amarnath being a remote location does not have lodging facilities. However, Pahalgam (87 km from Srinagar) has plenty of those options. Other than the Amarnath Shrine, the other place of interest is the hill station-cum-tourist resort of Pahalgam with sites such as Kolhoi glacier and Betaab Valley along with the variety of flora and fauna.
How to Get There
The closest and the only major airport in the area is the Srinagar International Airport at a distance of 91 km from Pahalgam.
Srinagar Railway Station is situated at a distance of 80 km from Pahalgam.
Both state-run as well as private operators offer services till Pahalgam, from where pilgrims are made to embark on the trek to Amarnath. You can opt for online bus booking and travel with ease.
