Areekode is a small village in the Malappuram district of Kerala. The village is known as the ‘Mecca of Football’ for the area’s craze for football. It is believed that the name Areekode is derived from the Malayalam word Aruvikkode, which means the side of a river. The Chaliyar river is believed to have given rise to the settlement in the village. Located in the heart of the Malabar coast, the place has its own unique Muslim culture which is different from much of North India. The Malabar Biryani is a must-try dish of the area.
