Balasore is a city on the northern end of the East Indian state of Odisha. It is a coastal city and is known for its strategic importance and proximity to important towns and cities across the border in West Bengal such as Kharagpur, Medinipur and Digha. It is also the site of Indian freedom fighter Jatindranath Mukherjee’s demise while he fought against the British.

The nearest major airport is the Sonari Airport in Jamshedpur in neighbouring Jharkhand at a distance of 200 km.
The city itself has a major railway station called the Baleshwar Railway Station.
Various state transport buses as well as private buses connect the town to different cities in the region. Today Volvo bus service has become very popular amongst travellers across India.
