Begar is a small village in the South Indian state of Karnataka. Its nearest major urban agglomeration is the city of Udupi at a distance of 68 km. The village lies in the midst of four wildlife sanctuaries – Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, Shettihalli Wildlife Sanctuary, Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary and Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary – all within a radius of 45 km. Though surrounded by a lot of greenery, the village itself is not naturally green.
