About Etawah

Etawah

Situated on the banks of the Yamuna River, Etawah is the administrative headquarters of the district by the same name. The city was a focal point during the Revolt of 1857, in India’s struggle for independence. Two major rivers in India, Yamuna and Chambal meet at Etawah. The city is known for its export of agricultural produce including cotton, ghee (clarified butter) and oilseeds. The breeding and export of buffaloes and a special type of goat called Yamunapaari is also done in Etawah.
