About Kathgodam

Kathgodam

The word 'kathgodam' literally means a timber depot. Perched at an elevation of 554 metres, Kathgodam was a small village in 1901. Situated on the banks of River Gaula in the Bhabhar region, Kathgodam is now the second largest municipal corporation of Uttarakhand. Also known as the twin town of Haldwani, it now serves as an entry point to many tourist destinations in the state of Uttarakhand. Due to the fact that Kathgodam is on the foothills of Kumaon Himalayas, it is also one of the last rail heads connecting to the Himalayan Mountains.
