Diu is a fishing town in the westernmost Indian state of Gujarat. It is a part of the Diu district and comes within the Kathiawar peninsula. The town was the scene of a historic battle between the Portuguese and a combined army comprising the Sultan of Gujarat, Mahmud Begada, of Egypt, Turkey, Venice and Dubrovnik. The main town is situated on the eastern end of Diu island.
