Egmore is a city situated in the Chennai district of Tamil Nadu. Known for its various shopping complexes, it is situated at a distance of just 4.6 km from Chennai, and contributes significantly to the overall trade in the state. The city gets its name from a village called ‘Ezhumbur’ which existed in the pre-British era. The major attraction of the city is the ancient building of Egmore Museum, which was built in 1857.
