A municipal town in Thrissur District of Kerala, Guruvayur, also written as Guruvayoor or Gurupavanapuri, houses the famous Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple. Legends state that the temple may be as old as the Guruvayur temple idol, which is estimated to be about 5,000 years old.
