Ghatkopar

Ghatkopar is a beautiful suburban area of eastern Mumbai in Maharashtra. It is also a railway station owned by Central Railway line of the Mumbai suburban railway. Ghatkopar is the corner of the Western Ghats, hence in Marathi ‘Kopara’ means corner and ‘Ghat’ means small hills, therefore giving the place its name ‘Ghatkopar’. Urban legend has it that it got its name when locals gave out directions they referred to this area as ‘ghat ke uppar’ (above the hills).
