Jamnagar

Jamnagar, earlier known as Nawanagar, is in the state of Gujarat. Before ruling the city, Ranjit Sinhji, the Maharaja Jam Sahib of Nawanagar, was a famous cricketer. Over a period of time, the city gained prominence owing to the world’s largest oil refinery set up here by the reputed Reliance Industries. Jamnagar also has an oil refinery of Essar Group. Hence, it is popularly named as the ‘Oil City of India’. Jamnagar is popular for its four Jain temples, one of which is listed in The Guinness Book of World Records. Textiles, embroidery, bandhani (tie-dyed) fabrics, pearl fishery are some occupations of the people of Jamnagar.
