About Kolaghat


Kolaghat is a small town in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal. Situated in Midnapore district, Kolaghat sits on the banks of Rupnarayan river. It is a densely populated town and is famous for the Kolaghat Thermal Power Plant operational there. It’s only about 65kms away from the state capital, Kolkata.

Places to Stay
There are a couple of budget hotels in Kolaghat. They include Sher-e-Punjab Inn (Tariff – Rs. 950), Hotel Uma (Tariff – Rs. 1000) and Regal Guest House (Tariff – Rs. 700), Maharaj (Tariff – Rs. 500).

Bengali and English are both official languages of Kolaghat.

Sarat Mela, which is organised every year in the third weekend of January, is a popular event.

Places of Interest
The Kolaghat Bridge (also called Sarat Setu) is a landmark here. The riverside by Rupnarayan river is also a popular picnic spot.

Kolkata airport, located about 62kms away, is the closest to the city.


The Kolaghat railway station is located about 6kms away from the town centre. It connects the town to Kolkata, Midnapore and Kharagpur.


There are reliable daily bus services to Midnapore, the district headquarters, operated by Kayalni Tourist Travels and MAA Sitala Travels.
