Kulasekarapattinam is a town in the Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu. It is located 50 km from Tuticorin and 250 km from Rameshwaram. This is an ancient port and its reference has been found in Marco Polo’s diaries (1250 AD). The name “Kulasekharapattinam” come from the Pandyan ruler, Maravarman Kulasekara Pandyan I. The Mutharamman Temple, a 300 year old temple, is located here. Kulasekarapattinam lost much of its significance as Tuticorin became a large port.
