About Mahe

Mahe

Formerly a French colony, Mahé, which now comes under the Mahé district of the Union Territory of Puducherry, which is on the east coast, is surrounded by Kannur and Calicut District of Kerala. Also known as Mayyazhi, Maheis famous for the St. Teresa's Church, which brings in people from Singapore, Sri Lanka and England every year during the annual festival. Sabarimala

It is the largest pilgrimage centre in the world situated in a forest reserve that has 45-50 million devotees visiting every year. Sabarimala is a famous hill temple of Lord Ayyappa located in district Pathanamthitta of Kerala. Sabarimala gained immense repute when Hindu god Ayyappan successfully killed the Mahishi demoness. What subsequently came up was the Ayyappan Temple surrounded by 18 hills. Strictly for men devotees, the Sabarimala pilgrimage period starts mid-November and lasts till mid-January every year.
