About Makrana


Makrana is a town located in the state of Rajasthan and falls under the Nagaur district. Makrana has more than 136 villages under its jurisdiction which makes it the biggest ‘tehsil’ in the district. This place is renowned for its marble. It is believed that the Taj Mahal, Buckingham Palace, White House, Sydney Opera House and Westminster Abbey were all built with at least some marble from Makrana. A majority of the population of this large town is employed in the mining industry.

There are several religious tourist attractions in Makrana such as Shiv Mandir, Sai Baba temple, the Balaji Mandir, the Ghaat Wale Balaji, Ram Chawki and the Gayatri temple. Famous mosques include the Modi Masjid, Masjid Shahjahani, Masjid Hathai and Sunni Jama Masjid.

The nearest airport to Makrana is the Sanganeer Airport (110 km). Other nearby airports are Bikaner Airport (177 km) and Jodhpur Airport (188 km).

Makrana is a major railroad in Rajasthan. It is a major junction between major cities of Jaipur, Parbatsar and Jodhpur.
