About MAPUSA

Mapusa

Mapusa is the most happening town located in the northern area of Goa. It is situated just 13 km way from the state capital city, Panaji. It is also the Bardez Taluka’s headquarter. Located on the main highway NH-17, it links Kochi to Mumbai. The town’s name is spelled as ‘Mapuçá’ in the Portuguese and ‘Mapsa’, ‘Mhapsa’ or ‘Mapuca’ in the local languages. One can also see churches and administrative buildings famous for their architecture from the British Raj era here.

Language
The official language of Mapusa is Konkani. The other languages spoken in this region are Marathi, Hindi, English and Portuguese.

Events
The main event of Mapusa is the Mapusa Friday Market which is held on every Friday. Locals from the surrounding villages and towns drop in at this market to sell their home grown vegetables and fruits, wares, handcraft items and plants as per the monsoon season.

Place of Interest
There are several place of interest for domestic and foreign tourists. The Sankavaddi temple located at Arpora (8.5 km), the shrines of Vital and Vhoddhi, Dhaktli Jandevta, Vandevta located at Salvador do Mundo, and Fort Aguada.

Air:
The nearest airport to Mapusa is located in Panaji (14 km).

Rail:
There is no train station in Mapusa.  The nearest station is located in Margao (23 km).

Bus:

About Ankola

Ankola

A panchayat town in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, Ankola is a small coastal town. A town, which has many beaches, Ankola is famous for its unique breed of mango, which is called ishaad and is also known for its cashews. Belekeri beach in Ankola town is a natural port rich in iron ore, which is exported to China and Europe. Ankola is surrounded by temple towns and villages on all sides. Yakshagan and Suggi, a form of tribal folk dance has its roots in this town.
