Markapur is a town, a mandal and a revenue headquarter in Prakasam district in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Situated on the banks of the Gundlakamma (amma amma) river, this bustling town caters to 80% of the country's demand for slates and slate pencils. The place has abundant resources of slate mines.
