Home to more than 900 temples, the city of Palitana is located 50 km from Bhavnagar in Gujarat. Founded in 1194, Palitana was formerly a princely state of the Bombay presidency. It is considered to be an important pilgrim destination (tirtha) by the Jain community. Renowned for its sanctity, every Jain aspires to climb the mountain in Palitana at least once in their lifetime.

How to Get There
The nearest airport from Palitana is at Bhavnagar which lies at a distance of 51 km frpm it.
Palitana has a small railway station of its own from where trains to Songadh and Bhavanagar are available. A larger junction however, is at the town of Sihor which has trains to other cities such as Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.
The nearest bus stand from Palitana is situated 800 meters away from the Palitana railway station. From here, buses to Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Ankleshwar, Bharuch, Surat and Vadodara arrive and leave every hour. A popular bus service operator here is the Jay Khodiyar Bus Service.
