Formerly known as Parur, Paravur is the headquarters of the Paravur Taluk in Ernakulam district of Kerala. Considered as the gateway to the Malabar region, North Paravur is a northern suburb of Kochi City. The town is situated at the north end of Ernakulam district, on the borders of Thrissur district. The town, which was once well-known for traditional industries like coir, handlooms and agriculture, has now become a major residential suburb of Kochi. The coastal highway NH-66 Panvel-Kanyakumari (NH-17 Kochi – Mumbai) passes through North Paravur.
