About Peerumedu

Peerumedu

A hill station in the Idukki district of India’s “God’s own Country” - Kerala, Peerumedu is located 80 km from Kottayam and 130 km from Kochi. The beautiful scenery of the waterfalls, the green slopes and open grasslands makes it one of the best places for a weekend getaway. It was earlier used as a summer retreat by Maharajas of Travancore. The hill station is named after a Sufi saint, Peer Mohammed. It also has plantations of tea, coffee and cardamom.

How to Get There

Air:
Cochin International Airport is nearest to Peerumedu. It is located about 120 km from the hill station.

Rail:
There are many express trains to Kottayam (80 km from Peerumedu) from Chennai, Bangalore, Mangalore, Hyderabad and Vijayawada.

Bus:
There are no buses to Peerumedu. However, one can reach Thekkady by bus. Private operators such as Royal Travels and SRS Travels provide bus services. Volvo bus is the most preferred choice of all travellers these days.

In the Vilupuram District of Tamil Nadu, lies the municipal town of Tindivanam. It is important geographically because highways NH 45 and NH 66 pass through the town, connecting the north, south, east and west territories. The cities nearest to Tindivanam are Pondicherry (38 km away) and Vilipuram (41 km away). Tindivanam was originally called Thinthrivanam, where “thinthri” means tamarind and “vanam” means jungle in Tamil, so it translates to “Jungle of Tamarind.” It is a progressive, multi-cultural town.
