Ramtek, a town in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district, is renowned for its Rama temple. Legend has it that when Rama was in exile, he had come to this town to rest. As the ashram of sage Agastya was very close to this town, the demons always liked to disrupt the activities of the holy men. Distressed, Rama vowed to help the holy men get rid of the demons. Thus it got its name Ramtek; tek meaning vow. King of Nagpur Raghuji Bhonsale constructed the Rama temple after he won over the fort of Deogarh in Chindwara.
