About Renukoot


A town surrounded by four states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar, Renukoot is a Nagar Panchayat in the Sondhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. The Rihand dam, located 1.5 km from Renukoot is a famous attraction which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in the year 1960. Renukoot also has Asia’s largest fully integrated aluminium plant. The weather here is pleasant in the months of October to March and attracts tourists around this time.

There are good budget hotels in Renukoot. Some of the famous hotels are Hotel Janpath (Tariff – Rs.2000) and Hotel the Galaxy (Tariff- Rs.1000) amongst others.

The official language spoken is Bhojpuri. The other languages spoken include Hindi and English.

The important festivals of Renukoot are Durga Puja and Diwali celebrated during the month of October and November.

Renukoot is known for its several picnic spots such as River Side, Chilika, and Technology Park. At a distance of 180 km from the auspicious Varanasi, Renukoot is famous for its temples - the Radha Krishna Temple (2 km), Sri Ram Temple (2 km from Renukeshwar Mahadev in Renukoot), Lotus Temple (2-3 km from Renukoot).

The nearest airport is the Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport, in Varanasi (62.6 km). 


Renukoot is well connected with its nearby towns and cities like Delhi, Varanasi, Raipur, etc. via rail. It has a railway station which is serviced by a daily train from Delhi.
