A city and a municipal board in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand, Rishikesh is known as ‘The Gateway to the Garhwal Himalayas’. The city is located 20kms north of the holy city Haridwar. The sacred river Ganges leaves the Shivalik Mountains through Rishikesh and flows out into the plains of northern India. There are several temples located on banks of the Ganges in Rishikesh. Nicknamed ‘the world capital of Yoga’, Rishikesh is considered a holy city by Hindus; hence is vegetarian by law.
