About Sangli

Sangli

A city in the state of Maharashtra, Sangli is situated on the banks of the River Krishna and is the largest market place for turmeric in Asia. The city is known as Natyapandhari, the birthplace of Marathi drama and the ‘Sugar Belt of India’. One of the largest grape growing regions in Maharashtra, Sangli also houses the country’s only turmeric exchange. To develop the wine industry, the government of Maharashtra has set up a specialized state-of-the-art wine park at Palus, 30 km from Sangli city.

Kapu a small town in the Udupi district of Karnataka is a coastal town that consists of four villages. 13kms south of Udupi, Kaup, which is pronounced as Kapu, is famous for its lighthouse and the three Goddess Durga temples and a fort built by Tippu Sultan. The town lies between Udupi and Mangalore on National Highway 66. Scenic on the shores of the Arabian Sea, many films have been shot at Kapu. The sunrise and sunset in the backdrop of light house at Kapu is one of the main attractions of the place.

The language predominantly spoken in this town is Kannada.

Other than the lighthouse and the Tipu Sultan fort the temples around the area includes Anegudde, Anegudde Vinayaka Temple and the Lord Kotilingeshwara Temple, which is loacetd about 1-2kms from the bus stand. Neighbouring town Udupi has a lot more tourist places of interest.
