A historical town in Maharashtra’s Sholapur district, Sangola or Sangole, as it is referred to by the locals, is a part of Pune division. Located close to the borders of Satara, Sholapur district and Sangli district, it lies at the junction of state highways (SH) 161, 3, and 71. It is believed that six Ingoles, Babaji Lakhmoji Ingole and his five sons, formed this town around the 14th or 15th century. They built a fort in the town, thus it got the name Sangole, meaning six (Saha) Ingoles. Sangola is also renowned for its pomegranates.
