About Satara

Satara

A city located in the Satara District of Maharashtra, Satara is located near the confluence of the river Krishna and its tributary river Venna. Believed to have been established in the 16thcentury, Satarais one of the historical cities in Maharashtra. The name of the city was derived from the seven hills surrounding it. Satara is well known for its sweet,kandipedhe. The city has a unique statue of Shivaji standing near a canon at Powai Naka, which is distinctive since most statues ofShivaji depict him riding on a horse. The well-known Kas plateau located near here is now a World Natural Heritage site.
