A panchayat town located in the Shimoga District of of Karnataka, Thirthahalli lies on the bank of the river Tunga. Located amidst the dense deciduous forests of Western Ghats, the town lies on National Highway NH-13 (Thirthahalli road), which provides access to other cities. Legend has it that Sage Parusharama visited the Tunga here, hence Rama Mantapa in Thirthahalli is regarded a holy place where taking a dip will wash away one’s sins. The town is connected to Kuruvalli via the Tunga Bridge.

Events

In the month of December all idols of gods from all the neighbouring regions are gathered together on the banks of River Tunga near Malur

Sri Rameshwara Temple is in the middle of town. Other places to visit in the neighbouring regions are Ambuthirtha, where the river Sharavathi forms a water falls,, Kavishaila at Kuppalli (18kms) and Kundadri Jain Temple and the Kundadri hills (30kms).

Harihar

A city located in the Davanagere District of Karnataka, Harihar is famous for the Harihareshwara temple. Geographically located in the centre of the state, Harihar is on the banks of the Tungabhadra River. The National Highway 4 (Puna – Bangalore) passes via this city.
