A panchayat town located in the Shimoga District of of Karnataka, Thirthahalli lies on the bank of the river Tunga. Located amidst the dense deciduous forests of Western Ghats, the town lies on National Highway NH-13 (Thirthahalli road), which provides access to other cities. Legend has it that Sage Parusharama visited the Tunga here, hence Rama Mantapa in Thirthahalli is regarded a holy place where taking a dip will wash away one’s sins.
