About Tirur

Tirur

Tirur is a municipal town in Malappuram district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the most important business centers of Malappuram district and is situated 26 kms west of Malappuram and 41 kms south of Kozhikode. It is birth place of Thunchathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, the father of Malayalam literature. Tirur is also a major trading centre of fish and betel leaf in the region.

Events
The famous "Thunjan Utsavam" is held here every year in the first week of February. During this festival many literary luminaries, singers and classical dancers gather here. A marital art festival of Kalripayattu, is conducted during summer on the sands of dry Bharathapuzha. During the second week of February a Sarvodaya Mela is conducted in Thirunavaya (7 kms from Tirur) where the Gandhians of Kerala assemble.

Places to Visit
Some of the interesting places to see in Tirur are Chandanakavu (the birthplace of the great 16th-century Sanskrit poet), Thunjan Paramba, Thunchaththu Ezhuthachan Malayalam University, Padinjarekara Azhimugham (noted for migratory birds) and Mamankam (in Thirunavaya).

Air:
Calicut International airport is the nearest airport to Tirur (35 kms).

Rail:
Tirur railway station is one of the major railway stations in the Malabar region. Almost every train stops here, connecting the Malappuram district to the rest of the country.

Bus:
There are regular buses plying between Tirur and cities like Malappuram, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Guruvayur, Thrissur and Coimbatore. There are a few private buses offering over night journey to Bangalore. About Ankola

Ankola

A panchayat town in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, Ankola is a small coastal town. A town, which has many beaches, Ankola is famous for its unique breed of mango, which is called ishaad and is also known for its cashews. Belekeri beach in Ankola town is a natural port rich in iron ore, which is exported to China and Europe. Ankola is surrounded by temple towns and villages on all sides. Yakshagan and Suggi, a form of tribal folk dance has its roots in this town.
