About Tonk


Tonk, also known as “Lucknow of Rajasthan”, is a small town in the district of Tonk in Rajasthan. It is located about 95 km south of Jaipur, near the Banas River, on its right bank. Tonk is well known for its havelis and mosques. Many pilgrimage places are located here. Tonk is also known for leather and felt products manufactured here, and one can get products from the markets at a good bargain.

There are a few good budget hotels in Jaipur. Some of them are Hotel Jaipur City (Tariff – Rs. 1500), Hotel Indiana Classic (Tariff – Rs. 1200), Hotel Urvashi (Tariff – Rs. 1000), Hotel Kanchandeep (Tariff – Rs. 1000), and Hotel Kalyan (Tariff – Rs. 500).

The official language of Tonk is Rajasthani. The other languages spoken here are Hindi and English.

Festivals celebrated in Tonk include Makar Sankranti and Kite Festival celebrated on 14th January, the Elephant Festival (on the eve of Holi) in March, and Dusshera in November.

Some of the places of tourist attraction are Sunehri Kothi, the historical Ghanta Ghar (30 km), Hadi Rani Ki Baori (35 km), and Kakor Fort (50 km).

How to Get There

Jaipur Sanganer Airport is the nearest airport to Tonk (95 km).

Tonk is not well connected with other cities via railways. Bhanwar-Tonk Railway Station (25 km) is the nearest station to the town. But one has to alight at Banasthali-Newai Railway Station (35 km) and board a train to Tonk.
