Earlier known as Ujjaini, the land of Ujjain is one of the famous sites that hosts the Kumbh Mela, a religious carnival that attracts millions of Hindu pilgrims. Ujjain is known as the ‘City of Temples’ as it has the maximum number of temples in the world. It has been home to some of the great scholars such as Kalidasa and has witnessed the rise and fall of two ruling empires – Mauryas and the Guptas. It also has been one of the four global seats of learning in ancient India.
